Walking along the Amsterdam river IJ. This soothing and relaxing walking tour starts in the center of Amsterdam at Amsterdam Central Station which is located on Het IJ. I walk further past the passenger terminal of Amsterdam, a large cruise ship is docked there. I stroll across the bridge to Java Island and KNSM Island, where the ships were unloaded by dock workers from the beginning of the last century. Houses have now been built in the Eastern Docklands in Amsterdam-East, about 2500 people live on the KNSM island. Traces of the activity of the past can still be found here, such as an old restored crane with which the ships were unloaded.
