The opposition to the Ambler Road has been historic: 89 Tribes from both Interior and Coastal Alaska have passed resolutions against the road; Tanana Chiefs Conference, a coalition of 42 Interior Alaska Native Tribes, has long opposed the road; thousands of Alaska Natives and Alaskans have spoke out against the road at hearings across the state; hundreds attended protests, and hundreds of thousands of people across the country have signed petitions and took action to stand in solidarity with the Alaska Native leaders at the forefront of this fight.

The two Alaska Native Regional Corporations dropped support for the Ambler Road – in October 2023, Doyon Ltd., NANA soon announced the same. Even the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), after holding hearings across the state, announced that they, too, would not approve the Ambler Road.

Despite the clear message from across Alaska, Sen. Dan Sullivan is going behind the backs of Tribal Governments and Alaska Native communities to force the Ambler Road by introducing the Ambler Road as an official rider to the National Defense Authorization Act in the Senate.

If this rider goes through, is adopted in the house version of the Bill, and then is signed into law, this rider will supercede the decisions made by the BLM, and will be a major step in pushing through this destructive road.

Together, we can make sure that Sen. Sullivan and Rep. Peltola listen to the voices of Alaska Native leaders and stops pushing a dead-end destructive Ambler Road.
