HUGE thanks to Matt Maginn for allowing me to tape Cursive once more. They are one of my favorite bands of all time and they put on such an amazing performance on stage every single time I see them. Performing Domestica from start to finish was pretty special and seeing their last show of the tour. I wanted to capture it as best I could. But this night was not meant to be... Coming from Detroit, I was late getting out of work and had to book to Chicago. Getting there around 8. Had to get set up during the opener and thinking I'd be able to get a board patch like usual, I only brought one set of mics. When asked for a board patch I was met with animosity and , "pretty late in the game, I am too busy." (oh ok - sorry). I set the Schoeps mics up at the board with the Panasonic camera. Levels looked great during the first song and I booked it to the front to film from the barrier (incredible as I am never that close for a show ever!). The show ends, I am PUMPED. Thinking I was able to get some really really good footage. Come to find out that the Schoeps recorder stopped working.... I must have put it back in standby when placing it in the bag. Absolutely gutted. Also the panasonic camera was slightly out of focus and died right after the main set ended. Tonight was just not meant to be and I feel really bad as I wanted to capture it in the best possible way. I hope I will get another opportunity down the line to record this fantastic band again. Watching this back, the audio is decent from the cameras. But I would say average at best.
