 Dividing the project into tasks: the project is divided into different tasks and are managed on task level, rather than on project level, as each task is assigned the necessary resources, and the resources are managed by the task.
 Assigning the resources: each task requires resources for its successful performance. It requires a minimum resources to carry out the activities. Generally, there are five types of resources:
◦ Labour
◦ Equipments
◦ Material
◦ Facilities
◦ Miscellaneous
 Determining resource attributes: each resource comes with certain qualities which are essential to carry out the project work. At this stage a new table of information is formed for each resource, showing the resource, its attributes and its availability.
 Resource levelling: it refers to the process of inspecting the resources to ensure that their use is as smooth and level as possible. It is a common scenario that it is more advantageous to extend the project schedule to avoid large ups and downs in resource usage.
 Re-allocation of resources: it is a constant and continuous function of the project manager through out the project period. In certain cases there is need of shift of resources from one task to another, or change in the project schedule or budget.
 Tracking utilization rates: it is a common practice that some resources may be kept idle for a long time in a particular project, though resource planning is done efficiently. Some times, project managers may not remember that the resource is idly kept and is paid for, without using it. This problem can be solved by tracking resource utilisation rates.
 The utilization rate can be computed as follows:
 Utilization rate= number of hours worked in a week or month x 100
total number of hours in a week or month
 If utilization rate is low, correction action is to be taken by the project manager.
