Building a boxbeam to compress the strawbales and secure the walls to the base. Before we could fit it we had to straighten the bales and put in the rope to tie the boxbeam to the base. This is a big point in the build as the walls are now set and feel really strong. We can trim the bales a bit before we plaster otherwise we are committed! The end is in sight!

Strawbales are one of a number of natural building techniques that are ideally suited to temperate climates, especially where straw is readily available. Its a waste material and it is storing the carbon in the straw as it doesn't break down. As long as they aren't being transported long distances they are an really sustainable material.
