On June 10, 2007, the final episode of the series "The Sopranos," written and directed by David Chase and starring James Gandolfini and Edie Falco, was first shown on HBO. The ambiguous concluding scene involving mob boss Tony Soprano at a diner, with its shocking cut to black, would prove controversial, but also entirely fitting for a show that rewrote the rules of television drama.
