We commemorate National Vietnam War Veterans Day with our special guest speaker, Col. Thomas Moe, U.S. Air Force (Retired), Vietnam Veteran and prisoner of war. Our president and CEO, Lt. General Michael Ferriter, U.S. Army (Retired,) will kick off the event and set the stage for Col. Moe to share his amazing story of service, honor and bravery. Moe served more than 52 years in military and public service. In 1967, he entered training in the F-4 “Phantom” aircraft and was assigned to combat duty at Danang Air Base, Vietnam, where he flew 85 combat missions. In January 1968, Moe’s plane went down over North Vietnam. He shares his thoughts as he hid, listening for rescue and attempting to evade the enemy. He was captured and spent more than five years as a POW in North Vietnam. During the attempt to rescue him, a pilot, then Maj. Bob Wilke, was shot down and killed, his aircraft crashing so close to Moe that the ground shook. He has never forgotten Wilke’s heroic sacrifice.

During the war between North Vietnam and South Vietnam, 2.7 million U.S. service members served -- 304,000 were wounded and 1,253 Missing in Action (MIA) heroes who have not yet returned to American soil. We honor all who served and sacrificed their lives during the Vietnam War. Thank you and welcome home!
