We often sing this hymn at our church during the season of Lent. I also think about this song in times of trials and tribulations, to be reminded Who we should look to. The Old Rugged Cross was written by the American preacher and hymn writer George Bennard in 1913, When Bennard retired, he lived in Reed City, Michigan - how appropriate to play this hymn on a "reed" organ!

Played on an 1897 Berlin reed organ (pump organ), where the expression is controlled by varying the amount of air flow by the treadles with your feet. Some think that the treadles are just to make it sound, but it is really the main part of the reed organ to make notes into music
