Mark 4:11-12
The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you.
But to those on the outside everything is said in parables so that,
“‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
    and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’”

A Lamp on a Stand
21  He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead,
don’t you put it on its stand?  22  For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and
whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.   23  If anyone has ears
to hear, let them hear.”
24  “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued.  “With the measure you use, it
will be measured to you—and even more.  25  Whoever has will be given more;
whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”
John 1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God.  2  He was with God in the beginning.  3  Through him all things were made;
without him nothing was made that has been made.   4  In him was life, and that life
was the light of all mankind.   5  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has
not overcome  it.
6  There was a man sent from God whose name was John.  7  He came as a witness to
testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.  8  He himself was
not the light; he came only as a witness to the light
Ephesians 2:8-10
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from
yourselves, it is the gift of God—  9  not by works, so that no one can boast.  10  For we
are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared
in advance for us to do.
