Hello, welcome to another video! As I recently celebrated my birthday, my friends decided to surprise me. Without revealing anything, they sent me a package. Inside, they placed some sweets that apparently vanished magically off the camera. There's also a nice birthday letter with best wishes. And now, the main attraction – the cherry on top – a 3D printed Porsche crest to work on! I have never worked on 3d printed parts so let’s see whether generic modelling approach is enough. Let's get started.
Now, materials: For primers, I have Mr. Surfacer 500 to fill the gaps, Tamiya Surfacer to even out the surface, and AK Extreme Metal Polished Aluminium as the base for the gold color. Next are the three crest colors: the base red color from Mr. Hobby, followed by X-12 Gold Leaf from Tamiya, and X-1 Gloss Black as a paint marker. Unfortunately, the paint marker wasn't a great choice, as it left noticeable paint flow marks as you'll see in the video.. An airbrush would have been a much better idea.
Naturally, everything begins with sanding and I discovered that 1000 grit sandpaper wasn't sufficient to smooth out the 3D printer's pathways from the surface. So, if you're painting a 3D printed model, you might want to try using a lower grit value.
In summary, this was a quick and relaxing project that I truly enjoyed spending time on. I want to extend my gratitude to Evelyn and Martin for the thoughtful gift. The idea of printing the Porsche crest is truly fantastic! Without further ado, I won't keep you any longer – enjoy the video! 😊
