Online scams use credit card decisions to trick consumers and this action contributes to the scams aagainst seniors.
According to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), adults age 60 and over suffer the highest total financial losses and among the highest average losses per victim from online scams—amounting to billions of dollars annually.
For many seniors who live by the Golden Rule, trust is a sacred covenant. Unfortunately, scammers have no moral compass. They can look you in the face, exploit your trust, and hide behind AI technology, misleading timelines, and so-called “non-refundable” policies to keep your money and avoid accountability.

One common tactic scammers use is pointing to credit card dispute results to justify deceptive practices. A credit card denial does not mean the scammer is right or that your legal rights are gone.
Here are 5 critical facts every consumer should know:
1️⃣ Credit card decisions are not legal determinations
2️⃣ Credit card decisions are internal and administrative only
3️⃣ Credit card decisions are not rulings on contract performance
4️⃣ Credit card companies often require only minimal proof of service or delivery
5️⃣ Credit card companies do not measure the quality or completeness of a delivery
Your credit card company should be notified in writing immediately. However, in some cases, scammers influence dispute denials by submitting misleading delivery timelines—allowing them to cover up non-performance and unlawfully keep your money.
Don’t lose hope. The law can still protect you—even when a credit card dispute does not.
