Mpumelelo Ncwadi is a humanitarian-at-heart who works to help others achieve reliable prosperity and resilience. As Chief Strategy Officer of his own nonprofit organisation, Indwe Trust, he is responsible for raising charitable donations and creating awareness. A native of the Eastern Cape with academic qualifications from the University of Johannesburg, University of Texas at Austin (USA), University of California at Berkeley (USA), Brown University (USA), University of Cambridge (UK) and University of Cape Town, he put himself through high school selling tomatoes, eggs and clothing, homemade by his mother. In this talk, Mpumi explains how the African traditional practice of iLima, can bring about reliable prosperity. iLima (from isiXhosa word ukulima = to plant) involves the coming together of villagers to share resources, knowledge and wisdom in order for them to cope and become resilient as a collective.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
