As a child, Natalie spent many Christmas seasons involved in several ballet productions of “The Nutcracker”, playing diverse roles from a tin soldier to one of the “flowers” in Tchaikovsky’s famous waltz. What started out as a joke in the midst of rehearsal delirium – turning the waltz into a Brazilian samba – ended up giving us the freedom to play the full piece but in a way that was fresh and also more suited to the instrumentation of the duo.
