Gardening in the Butterfly House🌱 - Horniman Museum and Gardens

Описание к видео Gardening in the Butterfly House🌱 - Horniman Museum and Gardens

Yu from our Horticulture team has been taking cuttings from the pentas plants in the Butterfly House.

These are the butterflies' favourite food source, and we're taking cuttings so we can grow more for them to eat using what we already have.

Gardening in the Butterfly House is different to working in the Gardens, because when working in a heated room you don't have to think so much about the changing of the seasons outside. It's also important to think about gardening in the Butterfly House in the context of the insects - the plants grown need to provide either food or habitat for the butterflies.

The Horniman Museum and Gardens is an inspiring, surprising, family-friendly, free attraction in South London’s Forest Hill. We’ve been open since Victorian times, when Frederick John Horniman first opened his house and extraordinary collection of objects to visitors. Since then, our collection has grown tenfold and includes internationally important collections of anthropology and musical instruments, as well as an acclaimed aquarium, Butterfly House and natural history collection.

Unusually for such an important museum, you can see our collection up-close and face-to-face. You can even pick up, try on and play with some of our objects.
