Описание к видео Building Infrastructure to Expand CNG and RNG in Trucking

Compressed natural gas (CNG) and renewable natural gas (RNG) are gaining traction as sustainable fuel choices for fleets, but adoption depends on more than vehicle technology. Infrastructure is the key. In this episode of On The Road, we sit down with Nick Kurtenbach, president and CFO of Freedom CNG, to explore how fueling strategies are evolving to meet modern trucking needs.

Kurtenbach noted that performance concerns are fading as new engines, like the Cummins X15N, prove CNG can work in “99% of operating environments.” Fleets are also looking at total cost of ownership. While CNG systems may carry higher upfront costs, Freedom CNG helps customers manage those pressures by tailoring fueling strategies and infrastructure access.

One innovative approach is mobile fueling. Instead of investing in costly on-site stations or relying solely on public networks, Freedom’s hub-and-spoke model combines fixed stations with mobile fueling to extend service and cut capital costs. “Mobile can unlock a lot of value for the fleets,” Kurtenbach explained.

Infrastructure growth is expanding nationwide through Freedom’s acquisitions of ComTech Energy, X3CNG, and Lancer Energy, allowing rapid deployment of both permanent and mobile fueling solutions. Meanwhile, RNG production is scaling—currently at 0.6 billion cubic feet per day, with the potential to grow to 4–5 BCF in the next 20 years, enough to fuel more than a million trucks.

“Fleets don’t need to wait,” Kurtenbach emphasized. Scalable CNG and RNG solutions are ready today, offering both economic and environmental advantages.

Watch the full On The Road interview to learn how Freedom CNG is building the next generation of fleet fueling.
