Close to a slow river I found this beautiful female Chaffinch nesting. The nest is placed approx. 2 m above ground on a branch, against a trunk of a pine tree. The nest is a deep cup made of plant fibres, grass, fine roots, lichens, moss, bark strips, animal hair and feathers.

Chaffinch breeds from mid-March to mid-July.

Chaffinch has a varied diet of mostly small invertebrates and their larvae, seeds and buds. As this is filmed in the southern part of Norway where this species is resident. According to IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, Chaffinches are still Increasing in population across its geographic range.

Across its European range this species is not threatened, however the races palmae and ombriosa in the Canary Islands are threatened.

When filming this nest I placed the camera on a tripod approx 5 meters from the nest as some small brush was between me and the nest. The soil was rather wet and soft so to not make any shake to the camera I stepped away from the camera during filming. I used my newest lens - AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR connected to my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K using a Nikon G to Micro Four Thirds Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x adapter. This time I did film it in 4k. But as my Laptop do not copy well with rendering 4k I converted it to 1080 for use here on YouTube.
