DR. BEN MURIITHI is a medical doctor who has been working in a state hospital in Nairobi. He comes from a long line of traditional healers, and he has a deep
interest in herbal and alternative medicine; his great-great-grandfather, his great-grandfather, his grandfather, and his father were all well-known and respected community healers.
MURIITHI decided to go to medical school and learn modern medicine. His cousin,
GICOVI NJOKA was given the mantle to continue treating the community in place of MURIITHI who was the direct descendant of the healing family. However, GICOVI
decided to dabble in witchcraft, perhaps due to greed and the want of material
wealth and power in present-day Kenya. MURIITHI is aware of the problems this
creates in his community, and he cannot resist the pull to help his people; he is, after all, a healer at heart.
MURIITHI then decides to return home and set up a research facility on the healing powers of herbal remedies, combined with his western medical knowledge. He believes the two can work hand in hand and prevent further deaths of his people from treatable diseases.
The battle of wills of the two medicine men is the story of Medicine Man and how a
lone man overcomes the odds to redeem the community he so loves, but a community
that is deeply shackled in witchcraft, and enslaved by the ‘power’ of a warlock.
