We have successfully developed a cost effective, highly efficient sorting system which can sort approximately 1500 to 2000 kg of potatoes per hour at minimum and can be achieved more if desired.

Potato Grading Machine
In order for farmers or traders to maximize the profit on potatoes, it is crucial to identify the quality and sort the potatoes according to quality and sizes. Potatoes can be assorted in three sizes. Small: Mean Diameter less than 25mm; Medium: greater than 25 mm and less than 45 mm; Large size: Greater than 45 mm in mean diameter. Why do the sorting?
Once the potatoes are harvested, all sizes are mixed together. Now, when sold in the lot of mixed sizes the average price recovered is lower. Let us see how. Smaller sizes potatoes are used as seed for the future season. Medium size potatoes are sold in the general market. Larger size potatoes are best to sell in international market which can yield better rates. Also Larger size potatoes have more value in the market because they are used to produce potato crisps / chips.
As shown above, instead of selling potatoes in mixed lot, we must separate them recover better margins. It must also be noted that, our sorting system can sort the potatoes almost immediately as they are being harvested. Our system is robust enough to install it on the farm itself.
