India and the United Kingdom have sealed a £350 million defence deal for the supply of lightweight multirole missiles, strengthening their post-Brexit strategic partnership. The UK-based Thales will deliver the Martlet or LMM missiles to India’s armed forces, ensuring both high-tech firepower and job security for 700 British workers. The agreement opens avenues for technology sharing and co-development in propulsion and sensors — key to India’s long-term defence self-reliance. However, experts caution that such imports must not erode Atmanirbharta, but rather accelerate technology infusion. With the missile capable of striking targets up to 6 km away — from land to sea and air — the deal underscores India’s evolving military precision.
