SALIENT FEATURES OF 1973 CONSTITUTION:
Following are the salient features of the 1973 constitution

PREAMBLE:
Preamble means an introductory part of statue, it is not the part of the constitution. It is stated in it than sovereignty over entire universe belongs to Almighty Allah.

FEDERAL FORM OF GOVERNMENT:
Constitution of 1973 provide federal form of government consisting of four provinces of the central government of Pakistan.

RIGID CONSTITUTION:
The 1973 Constitution is rigid because amendment procedure is not easy.

BI-CAMERAL LEGISLATURE:
The Federal Legislature is bi-cameral consisting two houses.
Senate (upper house) and National Assembly (lower house)

PARLIAMENTARY FORM OF GOVERNMENT:
Parliamentary form of government has been provided for the government in the constitution.

FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS:
The constitution guarantees fundamental rights. These basic right cannot be suspended without applying constitutional methods such rights can be enforced by the courts.

DIRECT ELECTION:
Method of Direct election has been adopted in the 1973 constitution. The Election of National Assembly and provincial Assemblies shall be held directly.

BYE-ELECTION:
No bye-election is to be held if the seat has fallen vacant at a time when 120 days or less are left for the term of Assembly to expire' or the Assembly stands already dissolved.

ELECTION DISPUTE:
Article 225 provides that election dispute relating to either of the House of Parliament or a Provincial Assembly can only be questioned by an election petition presented to such tribunal and in such a manner as may be determined by the Act of parliament.

DOUBLE MEMBERSHIP:
A member of the parliament or a Provincial Assembly has been debarred to retain double membership. No person at the same time can be a member of both the house or a house and a Provincial Assembly or the Assemblies of two or more Provinces or a houses or a Provincial Assembly in respect of more than one seat. There is, however, no bar for becoming a candidate from two or more constituencies either for the, election of Parliament or a Provincial Assembly.

INDEPENDENCE OF JUDICIARY:
An Independent Judiciary has been provided in 1973 constitution. Judiciary safeguards the fundamental rights of the people of Pakistan.

RULE OF LAW:
Every citizen shall have the protection of law and shall not be treated otherwise than in accordance with law.

OFFICIAL & NATIONAL LANGUAGE:
In accordance with Article 251 of the present constitution , Urdu has been declared as National language of Pakistan but the official language is English.

PRINCIPLES OF POLICY:
Another democratic feature of 1973 constitution is embodiment of Directive principles of policy of the state. The principles of policy provide guidance to the state.

END OF EXPLOITATION:
Exploitation of any kind has been abrogated in 1973 constitution.

SINGLE CITIZENSHIP:
The 1973 constitution provides single citizenship.

SYSTEM OF CHECK & BALANCE:
The 1973 constitution provides system of check and Balance in the country.

WRITTEN CONSTITUTION:
The 1973 constitution of Pakistan is in written form and contained 280 clauses and six schedules.

RIGHTS OF MINORITIES:
Rights of Minorities have been-protected in the 1973 constitution.

HOLDING OF REFERENDUM:
The president of Pakistan is authorized to order for holding a referendum on any issue of national importance.

PROVINCIAL AUTONOMY:
The Provinces of Pakistan enjoy full freedom under 1973 sunection. A province may initiate legislation on any common subject.

STATE RELIGION:
The 1973 constitution declares that Islam would be state religion.

ISLAMIC CONSTITUTION:
The 1973 constitution of Pakistan is regarded as an Islamic constitution no law repugnant to Islam shall be enacted.

HIGH TREASON:
The abrogation of the constitution hrough unconstitutional means is a high treason. It cannot be abrogated by the use of force.

EQUAL RIGHTS OF WOMEN:
The 1973 constitution has given equal rights to women.
