"Lamia" by John Keats is a narrative poem about a serpent who transforms into a beautiful woman to seduce Lycius, a young man from Corinth. They live together in blissful isolation until Lycius insists on a public wedding. At the ceremony, his philosophy teacher Apollonius exposes Lamia's true serpent nature with his rational gaze, causing her to vanish and Lycius to die of shock.
The poem explores the conflict between illusion and reality, suggesting that cold reason destroys beauty and wonder, but also that love built on deception cannot survive exposure to truth.

Section 10: Wedding preparations begin. Left alone while Lycius summons guests, Lamia uses her supernatural powers to create a magnificent banquet hall with invisible servants, preparing for the celebration she dreads.
