Alice Guo has suspected lung infection: PNP spox | ABS-CBN News

Dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo has a suspected lung infection, based on her September 23 medical examination, according to Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo.

The "possible lung infection" was discovered when Guo underwent the medical and physical exams, conducted by the PNP General Hospital and its forensic group, prior to her transfer from the PNP custodial facility to the Pasig City Jail on Monday.

"Sa chest X-ray po nakita 'yung possible ang suspected infection sa kaniyang left lung," Fajardo told reporters shortly after Guo's turnover to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

Guo's medical exam last Friday, September 20 did not indicate any respiratory illness, and it's possible the suspected infection developed over the weekend, Fajardo said, citing the doctors.

"Mayroon siyang kaunting colds kanina. Sa ospital, nag-uubo-ubo siya nang kaunti," Fajardo noted, referring to Guo.

Now that Guo has been turned over to the Pasig City Jail, the next steps for her medically will be handled by the BJMP.

"The doctors deemed it necessary to put that in writing, and it will be now the BJMP who will determine what kind of treatment — if there will be any treatment at all — [will be given for] treating the suspected infection," she added.

BJMP spokesperson Col. Jayrex Bustinera said that while confirmatory tests on Guo's medical condition are being done, she will initially be isolated in a room along with three inmates being treated for tuberculosis.

So far, Guo, who was made to wear an N95 mask, has tested negative for COVID, according to Bustinera.

Once she is cleared of any respiratory infection, Guo will be transferred to a regular cell, "mixed with the general population," the BJMP official said.

Guo will share the cell with 43 other female inmates, and will stay in one of the triple-decker bunk beds, Bustinera added.

He also noted that the female dormitory has a capacity of 36, but currently houses 135 persons deprived of liberty (PDL). — with a report from Zyann Ambrosio, ABS-CBN News
