Derf Backderf in conversation about his career and work with Glenn Fleishman

Описание к видео Derf Backderf in conversation about his career and work with Glenn Fleishman

John “Derf” Backderf made his name with the weekly cartoon “The City,” syndicated in alt-weeklies nationwide. But he’s became much better known in recent years for his graphic novels, particularly “My Friend Dahmer” (made into a film) and “Kent State.” Derf cut his teeth working as an editorial cartoonist, illustrator, and daily comics colorist at a Florida newspaper, however, and he and comics historian Glenn Fleishman will talk about what working in cartoons were like then and now. Audience questions welcome!

This interview is part of a series connected to “How Comics Were Made,” a richly illustrated book tracing how cartoons go from an artist’s pen or stylus to the printed page or screen. Derf and hundreds of other cartoonists’ work will be featured in the book in forms from original to printing artifacts to newsprint reproductions.
