It seems starting with 3 lives was not enough for me. Now, I know, I'm playing this game again, but this time I not only started with 1 life. I also picked another character, Blaze. Her specialty is throwing and slamming enemies, but she also has some attacks with nice range. There's also a glitch you can do with a sword (Which I will be showing you, of course) so that you don't waste its durability.
At first, I didn't like using this character, probably because her punching is a bit slow. But, it's better to focus more on throwing or slamming. Her jump kick also helps quite a bit.
