Toni Basil Tape 2 - BBC Special (1983)

Toni Basil starred, co-directed and choreographed two self-titled BBC television specials, which were re-aired in record time due to unprecedented audience response. "Toni Basil Tape 2" is the second BBC television special starring by this talented American singer, dancer and choreographer who brings her own explosive video style to the American approach to dance, and takes her 'pink poodles' for 'walkies' of a musical kind.

0:01 Intro. Toni greets audience and presents her mischievous poodles that messed up her dressing room.
1:15 Spazz Attack does a 'classic' opening number.
2:23 "I Don't Hear You" (music video).
6:00 "Best Performance" (music video).
9:41 Toni returns to her dressing room and finds problems with her poodles. She calls dog trainer Barbara Woodhouse looking for obedience instructions to deal with them. The sequence ends with music and dance.
14:30 "Shoppin' From A To Z" (music video).
18:04 Toni drives her car in Los Angeles while listening on the radio and suddenly a few seconds of her own cover of song "Romeo" is heard. The song recorded by Donna Summer in 1981, appeared on the "Flashdance" movie soundtrack in 1983.
19:13 Toni meets up with her dance friends, Shabba Doo (Adolfo Quiñones), Mr Penguin (Fred Berry, alias Rerun), Spazz Attack (Craig Allen Rothwell) and Popin' Pete (Timothy Earl Solomon) to talk a bit about street dancing and club dancing in America.
24:24 Toni talks about cheerleading in her "Mickey" music video. Scenes from the cheerleading competition she hosted in Los Angeles in December 1982 when "Mickey" reached #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.
25:25 "Street Beat" (music video).
29:23 Closing and credits interspersed with various video scenes. Toni says goodbye.

Interesting fact: Researching this TV special, we have found in many TV guides mentions of "Toni Basil Tape 2" aired on BBC2 on Friday 8th April 1983, which is very interesting as this special includes songs from her second studio album "Toni Basil" ("I Don't Hear You", "Best Performance" and "Street Beat") which, according to the information we found, was only released in December 1983 and if so, those songs were released a lot before the official release of the album, perhaps as a commercial strategy for that video to promote and boost songs from the next album.
