Regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, everyone has a closet. Closets designed to make us acceptable to society. As Angel takes you on her journey of coming out as gay to her evangelical community, the effects of gay conversion therapy and the deconstruction of her faith; we are reminded of the cost of hiding who we truly are and challenged to live authentically as we reach for the next best version of ourselves. As you listen, be inspired to go beyond the walls of your closet and take a clearer look at what motivates you to be who you are in society. Angel is originally from Liverpool, England, and currently resides in Portsmouth NH. As a person with a marginalized identity, Angel Simone is dedicated to creating spaces where people from diverse backgrounds and experiences can come together in ways that foster meaningful connections. She is on the board of Leadership Seacoast and New Hampshire Theater Project and has worked in both corporate and nonprofit environments. Originally from Liverpool, England, Angel now lives in Portsmouth with her children. She holds a master’s degree in engineering. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
