India’s 190 MW Naval Reactor (Status & Facts)
India is developing a new ~190 MW (thermal) pressurised light-water reactor (PWR) for its next-gen nuclear submarines (Project-77 SSNs and the S5 SSBN class). In October 2024, multiple defence reports indicated Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approval for building the first SSNs and moving ahead with the 190 MW reactor design. This reactor is a step up from the ~83 MW unit on Arihant-class boats and is intended to deliver higher sustained speed and endurance for larger subs. (Note: the 190 MW figure refers to thermal output, not shaft/electric power.)

France’s Nuclear-Powered Carrier (Reactor & Power)
France’s aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle uses two K15 PWRs, each rated at ~150 MW (thermal). Together, they generate steam for turbines that deliver about 61 MW (shaft power) for propulsion. This dual-reactor setup gives CdG its sustained operational endurance typical of nuclear carriers. (Again, the 150 MW rating is thermal, not shaft/electric.)
