My car had a small fuel leak on the passenger side, I suspected the fuel pump because these early model years where known to have faulty plastic fuel pump assembly barb quick connects, they tend to split, crack etc.

In my case there was a 1/4" hole on the bottom side of the fuel pump...
Small fuel leak shouldn't affect the fuel pumps ability to pump fuel, so I was driving the car around to drain the tank.... Low and behold 80mph on highway, the gas gauge blinks at me then the car shuts off.

Doing some electrical test the exiting fuel pump registered 1.2 ohm
If you use ohms law, V/R=A
That puts us at about 11-1/4 amps

The new used pump came in at 2.4 ohms
Theory placed us at 6.25 amps
HALF the current....
