The Echo Bay Resort at Lake Mead has been demolished. The National Park Service initiated the demolition of the resort's abandoned infrastructure in the fall of 2022, with the project expected to be completed by summer 2023. This effort was part of a broader initiative funded by the Great American Outdoors Act to remove hazardous and outdated facilities from areas like Echo Bay, Boulder Beach, and Overton Beach within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area .



Once a popular destination featuring a hotel, marina, and various amenities, Echo Bay began to decline in the early 2000s due to the receding waters of Lake Mead, which rendered the marina inoperable and led to the closure of the hotel in 2010 . By 2013, the marina had also ceased operations



The demolition included the removal of the Echo Bay Motel, which was at risk of collapse, as well as other structures such as the general store, gas station, concessionaire's offices, park housing, picnic sites, boat launch ramp, and campground . This project aimed to eliminate visual blight, improve visitor experience, and restore the park's scenic landscape
