Is magic dishonest? Perhaps a magician's thoughts on this topic are biased in the extreme, but here we go in vein! Magic Dara himself has been performing the so-called art of deception for two decades. But were these years spent lying? Is magic fake? Or is there truth to be found in deception? Yes, magic is deception. But there has always been deception in art. Although, some may ask; are magicians artists? Is magic an art? Some believe that magicians are honest deceivers while others allege that magicians are con artists. As you'll hear, Magic Dara acknowledges that magic can be expressed in different ways. It's about combining art and deception. To put it another way, fake magic can be real. A magician is an actor playing a magician. Conceptualising the topic as magic vs lying is unhelpful because all art forms involve deception. Art and dishonesty, in other words, go hand in hand. A magician is simply a lying artist.
