Practical Menswear Style Journey * Chapter 44 : PNW Logger Boots #5 * Drew's * Carolina * Georgia

Wherein we look at the 10" shaft brown roughout model...

I got a bit flustered here and failed to mention some important points. Oddly enough, the Wolverine Blvd is actually LONGER in the front than the Carolina boots, but perhaps because of the lower heel, I can still walk in them without so much issue. Perhaps when I lower the heel on the others, then, they won't need as much of an extreme relast upon rebuild? Time will tell.

The Drew's boots were not necessarily too wide in the vamp area, but much too big for the extra toe room they offer in this new last. But I don't know what exactly was wrong with the 55 Last in the first place that I would require such modification.

Unlike the boot geeks, most guys know NONE of the lasts. They go to the store and buy ones they think look nice or seem tough and hope that they are. We mostly want boots that are comfy and durable for the money and will usually sacrifice comfort for longevity (unfortunately). I wouldn't say this was strictly true for just "working" guys, but again, this is where often we have less time for advanced comparison shopping and blunder our way through several brands and companies and models before getting to the right boot at the right price.

However, as I said in the first Logger vid, I don't necessarily need a 10" shaft boot, BUT if someone is working in a graded area where there is high danger from timber rattlers or copperheads, this is perhaps a logical choice over even the 8" models. These were the ones available Ready-to-Ship, so I had to buy this height, but I got "lucky" there because many of the sizes would switch to Built-to-Order just like the other companies and these just happened to be available so at least I could do a review even though I had hoped to find a final boot that actually fit. So how likely one is to find some ACTUALLY Ready-to-Ship I could not say, but I wouldn't hold my breath that this company will automatically fix that problem when one wants to Test Drive a pair before getting into custom ones. But also, there is a pretty big price jump from these introductory models to their $550 range offerings, but if you are willing to wait two or three months for a pair of nicer boots, then you might as well get the ones you REALLY want if you can afford the extra expense, right?

I thought the one guy whose vid I watched was an idiot. He got the boots that are the right size for summer boots and lighter socks but then said he would sell them and buy the bigger ones he would need for heavier winter socks. Dude, by the time you GET those other boots, you will need the ones you just SOLD!!!!! It is practically a hostage situation with some of these companies, as far as I can tell, BUT the JK Boots seem to be the brand that offers a lot more customization in the shaft heights and things that aren't on Nick's menu, so I may have to look into getting a pair from them sooner down the road after all, and they may offer some more interesting leather choice variety.

In one JK video he said that Steel Toe is a lousy option for most uses and the Composite Toe is much better, but I'm not too worried about that because I don't plan to let somebody run over my foot with a forklift when I am in the woods and likely may never need a Steel Toe, anyway, but none of the cheaper ones come with Cap Toes, as I said in previous vid, surely.

I don't know if I should post some of those comments under the Ad-Tec vid, but so far nobody has asked anything about them. Thursday, I didn't try to walk around at all and was pretty lazy while my sores scabbed over. Yesterday I did a pretty long walk in the Oliver Cabell service boots since they are still pretty stiff from neglect. They didn't gouge into me but still got some blood on the inner lining through the sock on the right foot; even more than what's on the lining of the cheaper boots, of course.

The Georgia Lace-to-Toe boots went from Vernon to Ontario and now BACK to Vernon, so I could have probably just picked them up already yesterday, but who wants to sit in LA traffic on a Friday?
