Today I'm changing the battery on a Casio Wave Ceptor watch, model WV-58DA. I've owned this watch for more than six years and this is the first time it needed a new battery. The battery used in this watch is a lithium CR1620 which is widely available. The watch is also still available and you can find one brand new for less than $50 (and, if you shop carefully, somewhere between $40 and $45). Changing the battery is actually very simple and comparable to the way you'd change batteries in many other quartz watches. The main things you'll need to do correctly are performing the "All Clear" reset (which I demonstrate in this video) after the new battery is installed and making sure the O-Ring gasket is in the right place when you put the case back onto the watch. Again, those are things which you'll want to do when changing the batteries in countless other Casio watches. You should also be careful when tightening the screws which hold the case back in place. Those screws should be snug but not too tight.

This has been a great watch. It's certainly not as fancy as some of my other "Atomic" watches but the price was great. It has a metal bracelet which makes it comfortable to wear and makes it look nice too. Yes, the case is plastic and the front bezel is painted to look like metal. Yes, the front crystal is soft and vulnerable to scratches. But, apart from that, It has an alarm, an hourly chime, a 60-minute countdown timer, a world time mode and a 60-minute stopwatch. The most attractive feature, for me, is the Wave Ceptor technology. This watch has a radio receiver built into it. Every night, starting at midnight, it will tune in to WWVB in Colorado and set itself according to the atomic clock data in that broadcast. It will even make adjustments automatically for Daylight Saving Time.
