Only if you set the game to FreeAim No Aim Assist, you will see the true abilities of each guns in Red dead redemption 2.
The Navy revolver is a perfect example of that ! In FreeAim you will know which gun to use for every situation, depending on range, power, speed etc...
Now I know that the game is by default set to AutoAim, it's purely a commercial choice and not a developer's choice. The suits at R* didn't want to make the game too difficult and scare people away !
Although I have nothing against people using Autoaim and no offense really to people with disabilities, but I really believe that the AutoAim setting should be in the "Accessibility" Menu of the game. I think in some Games it is the case...
