For Indonesian fan collectors, as soon as ‘CMCE’ is mentioned, thoughts of super cheap CMC shaped speed coil based ceiling fan speed controllers is most likely the first thing to come to mind. I’m here to show you that those speed controllers are not the only thing that has the CMCE letters boldly stamped on them.

This is a CMCE ventilating fan, model ASB25-53-1. Huge creds to ‪@reviewerjangkung‬ for your help in me getting this fan & other late 90's new in box wonders! This fan here is a disposable Chinese made all plastic ventilating fan, I mean to put it mildly, this is just a cheap box fan motor & some cables slapped into a bunch of recycled Chinese takeout Tupperwares shaped into a fan. But that's what I love about it! It has been proven by several fan collectors that super cheap fans of old are popular among modern fan collectors, especially if they're able to get them in brand new condition. The crappiest manufacturers are the ones that usually throw in weird design features & colors to make their product look less crap, and that still applies to this day. This fan was found alongside several new in box Cosmos 10" ventilating fans, those ones that look like 80's Sanyo vent fans, but I bolted straight to this fan as Cosmos' old ventilating fans are easier to find used than this thing. I mean, everything this fan feels like it's ready to throw in the towel at any moment, which probably contributes to the rarity of it.

For a super cheap fan, it's surprisingly packs a punch! The motor runs a bit warm but I'm not at all surprised. It has a 1uF capacitor while Matsushitas ran with 0.8uF & other generic vent fans went for 1.5uF back in the day. Airflow rivals that of National's 10" ventilating fans from the same era which is absolutely stunning, but the sound this fan makes tells everything about it. That annoying whizzing sound comes from the fact that the motor spins very fast, but also because the blades have sharp edges due to bad molding. For as much as I HATE plastic body ventilating fans, this is an exception that will stay in my collection for a long while. While in that topic, I also wouldn't mind getting Sekai's older 10" all plastic fantastic vent fan with the black blades!
