Hey everyone, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2024 GMC Canyon we're gonna be showing you how to install the Pollak six-way round connector plug for the vehicle side. Well, before we get into that, let's just take a minute. We'll check this one out and make sure it's gonna work for you. So this is a type of connector plug that is extremely common on the front of vehicles that are getting set up to be flat towed like our Canyon here today. And having the opening will let you plug in your cable from the back of your motor home to the front of your truck.

With these plugs being a six-way round type connector, that's what it's going to look like once you open it up. And this is the type of cable end that'll actually plug into it. And so what these pins are gonna offer you are connection points for your left turn, your right turn, your brake lights, your tail lights. You'll have a ground wire, you'll have an auxiliary 12 volt wire. So if you want to use a charge line or something, you're able to hook it up to this.

And then you'll usually have another remaining open terminal that you can use for other accessories down the road or something like that if you want to. Now one of the main differences between this and a lot of the other type of connectors is a fact that it is made from metal. And so what a lot of people want to do, especially in colder climates and stuff, the plastic type ones like this over time can start to kind of crack and they're just not as durable. You know, it's metal versus plastic. So this is a real common type one that we see.

It's made by Roadmaster. It's not bad at all by any means. We do a ton of these here, really nicely made pieces. But if you're, you know, concerned about that break-in or maybe you really kind take your truck off road or live on a gravel road or something like that, the metal one might hold up a little bit better. With that said though, you kind of get this raw metal finish.

It doesn't look terrible, at least in my opinion, but it is kind of noticeable. So it will be nice if they maybe had a black version of this, but I suppose if it bothers you, you could probably always come back and paint it that way. I've got an extra one of these on hand just so we could show you kind of what's going on with the back of it. This is a version that has the rubber boot, which is what I prefer. There's other versions that have a whole entire metal housing and all your terminals and stuff will be in that housing and they're just a little trickier to work with but you know, the concept's the same. It's all entirely up to you. But I am a fan of the back of these things. They're brass terminals, everything looks really well made and the plastic. Alright, so this part's plastic, you can see the plastic kind of goes around pretty much the whole terminal, right, as you go around. And that'll just help prevent corrosion from building up. That'll help prevent, you know, things from getting shorted out if you do happen to get a little corrosion, it's not gonna be directly on the metal like a lot of the other ones that you see out there. You know, like this one for example. You just have your terminals. There's no plastic in between to kind of help keep 'em protected. It's not a huge deal but it's definitely worth noting. Something that I like to do anyway, whether it's this style, this style is take RTV silicone maker once I have everything hooked up and you can blob that up in between the terminals and that'll kind of do the same thing more or less isolating each individual terminal. As far as when you're using this, the cap here is gonna be spring loaded so it'll kind of force it back down and just help keep the terminals protected. It's a good idea to try to keep these clean and everything too so they don't get corroded over time. And other than that, not really a whole lot to this. You know, it's well made and should hold up for quite some time. So if you're someone that is looking to maybe replace a broken or cracked one or maybe just kind of upgrade from the get go, this is definitely one to check out. As far as getting this installed though, pretty straightforward, you know. You're just gonna have several wires that you'll have to plug into the back of this and
