Philips B6X04A Repair Plus Balance Control Restring How To

A beautiful and amazing sounding Philips from 1960. It has a few problems the owner wants fixed, no problems I say but the balance control wheel string is broken and I cannot for the life of me work out how to restring it. It's a devious plot by Philips to trip me up, can I outfox them?

My Digital Signal Generator:
The Signal Generator is a project kit from a local electronics magazine called Silicon Chip, there is a sister publication in the UK called Practical Electronics, it was featured in the April 2018 edition but mine has a oscilloscope function as well which I don't use. There may be a later edition in PE with that feature.
