Nazca Lines - Tree with roots & Hands. Interesting fact; Maria Reiche was a German woman who devoted a majority of her life to studying & determining the meaning of the Nazca Lines. At the age of 31, Maria cut her finger on a cactus while in Cusco. It became so infected, they had to amputate it. This was before Maria had even made it to Nazca & she wasn't aware the lines existed. If you will notice in this clip, the ancient Inca's always illustrated hands with one having five fingers and the other having four. It is true that most people around Nazca thought Maria was crazy for studying the lines at first. But by the end of her life, noting all the significant discoveries she had made, the locals truly appreciated all the work she had done on the lines of their ancestors. They also believed she had been destined to work on the lines since she displayed the same amount of fingers that were always displayed by the Incas.
