What is Autism?

Following consultation with autistic individuals, families, corporate partners and practitioners, the North East Autism Society created this animated video to explain autism as part of our Autism Acceptance Week campaign for 2022.

Written and created with primary school children in mind, as well as those with no prior knowledge or experience of autism, the video is intended to provide an overview of the autistic experience.

As a charity dedicated to championing the strengths, abilities and rights of autistic children, young people and adults, NEAS recognises that it would not be possible to highlight every aspect of the autistic experience, as well as additional barriers or experiences that arise as a result of co-occurring conditions, in one four-minute video. This animation is intended simply as an education tool, rather than a definitive explanation of autism, which we know is far more complex and unique to each individual with a diagnosis of autism.
