Multimodal transport operations lack an integrated end-to-end approach. Instead, each mode is managed independently by different stakeholders utilizing separate information in management systems, as cohesive control capabilities are absent. To that end, the EU aims to enhance the coordination of diverse modes and nodes. In other words, EU-funded initiatives strive to streamline logistics operations by driving the adoption of emerging technologies within the sector, such as AI, blockchain, big data, cloud computing, 5G and IoT.

We are developing generalized intermodal problem-solving processes, and for each one of these steps, we provide alternative solutions. Intelligent algorithms, visibility platforms, interface between legacy systems in order to align the activities of the different stakeholders of the different modes and achieve the optimization of the operations. The main technical goal is the provision of a platform supporting multi modality among different stakeholders.

Our vision is to integrate legacy systems and, at the same time, provide them with Smart Tools solutions with the capacity to advance the current transport and logistics scene. This said, we also aim to create a cloud-based experimentation platform for the provision of multimodal logistics services, integrating devices, information and capabilities across the different stakeholder systems while offering novel functionalities for freight analysis. Thus, three real operational cases for solving and facilitating the deployment of efficient intermodal interfaces between different modes, nodes and operators will be demonstrated in the project.
