On September 14, 2020, three bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha – the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020; the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020; and the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020.
“aimed at transformation of agriculture in the country and raising farmers’ income ” yet the farmers are against the implementation of these law.
A nationwide protest by farmers was initiated when the bills were passed especially in the states of Haryana, Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh – against these bills - and as of now, about one year later, it is still in progress and getting stronger day after day.
