What really happened the moment Adam and Eve sinned—and why did God respond by clothing them with animal skins instead of letting them “fix it” with fig leaves? In this eye-opening teaching, Sam Shamoun unpacks Genesis 3 to show that sin doesn’t just break a rule—it corrupts the heart, distorts the mind, and makes people run from God in shame instead of running to Him for mercy.

Sam explains the shocking spiritual meaning behind “their eyes were opened”: not to enlightenment, but to the corrupting influence of sin. Adam and Eve’s attempt to cover themselves becomes a picture of human self-righteousness—our efforts, good deeds, and religious “fig leaves” that can never hide our guilt before a holy God. Only God can cover our shame.

Then comes the key: Genesis 3:21. God Himself makes coats of skins and clothes them. That means blood was shed—an animal had to die. Sam shows how this is already the Gospel in seed form: the wages of sin is death, and either you die for your sin or a substitute dies in your place. He connects this to God’s justice and mercy, to the principle of substitutionary atonement, and to the later pattern in Genesis 22 (Abraham, Isaac, and the ram provided by God).

Finally, Sam ties it directly to Jesus Christ: God became man to become the Lamb of God—covering our nakedness, satisfying divine justice, and providing salvation. He also warns why Satan works hard to undermine the historicity of Genesis: destroy Genesis, and you attack the very foundation of the Gospel. The teaching closes by linking Genesis 3:21 to Romans 13:14—“put on the Lord Jesus Christ”—because the true covering for sin is not our works, but Christ Himself.
