ABOUT STREZOV SAMPLING STREZOV SAMPLING© is a division of STREZOV MUSIC PRODUCTIONS LTD – a company created by George Strezov – orchestrator, composer and orchestra/choir contractor in Sofia, Bulgaria. We have been sampling since December 2012 when we started out with Storm Choir 1 and throughout that time we learned and incorporated a lot into our products. Our team is passionate about sample libraries because at the end we are the products' first users – we are composers and arrangers working around the world. Our headquarters are based in Sofia, Bulgaria where we record the fantastic musicians and singers who breathe life into those tiny .wav files which we later port into Kontakt.
ABOUT SAAD AL-HUSSAINY Saad Al-Hussainy is one of the most prolific and well known film composers in the Arab world. His scores and songs have been heard by hundreds of millions, and he is best known as the composer for TV series Bab Al-Hara, for which he scored all 8 seasons. Saad opened Syria's first analog recording studio that featured computers in the sequencing and playback of musical samples in 1989, which ran on Cubase 1. Since then he has never stopped improving capabilities for combining Arabian music and technology. This library is the next chapter in that long evolution.
ABOUT ARABIAN ETHNIC ORCHESTRA A few years back we ventured into a project that, at the time, seemed like a completely impossible task - recording a detailed sample library in Beijing, China. A close friend of ours - composer and multi-instrumentalist Seth Tsui - happened to be living there, and together we created something that now composers around the globe use and love - JADE Ethnic Orchestra. Jade gave us the courage and confidence to pursue something that would otherwise seem crazy for a small company based in Sofia, Bulgaria, to authentically sample the sounds of the Middle East. The concept was clear, the instrument list - too. But where to record it? That was the question that was bothering us all. We tried a couple of options that weren't up to our standards, and then one day we met Saad Al-Hussainy who is one of the greatest composers in Damascus. Seth and I talked to him and he became excited to be part of something like this. The problem, however, was that Syria was - and still is - a country torn by war and conflict, but on the other hand filled with passionate and emotional people who want nothing more than to live in peace, and, in our case - to create art and play music. Again, by some miracle, Michael Seifert - who was one of the engineers on JADE Ethnic Orchestra - decided to travel to Syria together with a bunch of microphones and preamps. You would imagine that this would open the doors to so many problems, but to our surprise, the process was smooth and without any issues. Throughout a month of recording, we managed to capture so many instruments and voices and Michael became good friends with everyone that was there on the team. Seth and Saad were supervising the process thoroughly, and Saad even decided to add an enormous amount of phrases in the library! But, I have to point out, that once you collect such a large sample pool of material, it is very important how you place it in the context of a sampler and a virtual instrument. I hope that we, at Strezov Sampling, always try to further push our instruments and create new and unique things - in this case we had one super important feature that any Arabian sample library needs - microtonality. So we started testing and trying different things, and finally a terrific microtonal script was created by Alex Koev, together with microtonal scales tested and assembled by Hristiyan Georgiev (who by the way is a wonderful kaval player!). Iavor Pachovski was the workhorse behind this library and he's the main reason we have something playable and inspiring; he also scripted all the phrases and improvisation patches. Azad, Hristo, Hristian, Alex Kostov, Plamen, Boyan, Veli, Tsvetan, Boris - a super-star team that tackled every issue that stumbled across the way. And in case you're wondering - we started conceptualizing ARABIAN Ethnic Orchestra in 2022.
I'm writing these lines in January 2025 - after years of working, tweaking and playing those instruments to make sure we've taken the best out of the recordings. In addition to the articulations we typically sample, for this particular library we wanted to really capture the authentic performances of the different musicians, so that is why the library features a bunch of "Improvisation" instruments, along with some interesting "Phrases" patches.
