Plot:
Through a story that looks apparently in disorder, which jumps from the past to the future , using flash backs and flash forwards, the film narrates the restless path of two brothers: Marco and Filippo. Even if they have different characters their liaison is very strong. Marco is very extroverted and ambitious, he is 19 years old and goes to college but suddenly he gets involved in a criminal situation that he cannot control. Filippo is 17, sensitive, introverted and loves writing short stories that he usually reads to his friends during the weekends in his family country house. The group of friends that both have is very tied and knit.
Casually Marco meets Christian, an elegant young man that hides under a business man surface a criminal organization that deals with drugs.
Thanks to Christian, Marco meets Marta, who will become his girlfriend and will change his life to the point that he will loose control of his life and all the people he loves.
M.A.R.C.O. is an independent feature film, made with 15 thousand euros. Is the conclusion of a film course called CineScuola 2009, in which I taught high school students the fundaments of moviemaking: film language, the development of an original script, acting, diction, self confidence, and how to share objectives with peers and adults. During the making of the film the cooperation between students and film professionals was amazing. The positive mood created on set was the result of the motivation that moved each one of the participants.
I decided to give Marco and Filippo ( the main characters), two different film stiles. Camera over the shoulder for Marco, and steady shots for the other.
While I'm also a musician, music is a fundamental element for me. The difference between MARCO and other works I made as a composer is that I worked with subtraction. I decided to use the music only to characterize characters and to enhance emotional moments. Lidia's Chacater, for example: while she is an ex pianist the logic should say that I would have used classical music, but her health condition and her attempt to search for death leads the chacìrachter to a total refuse of any kind of music. That's why I decided to create a kind of "Horror Vacui" in Lidia and Marco's scenes, with the total absence of music. The silence, in this case, represents the raw reality of the action.
We didn't make a didactic film of a documentary, but we tried to tell e tough story, with a direct and curt film style. A story that will create an opportunity to reflection.
