Join me as I paint Scotland's National Monument, a 'replica' of Athen's Parthenon, located up Calton Hill, overlooking the East side of Princes Street in Edinburgh.

A thoroughly interesting location with lots of history, culture and architecture.

The National Monument, amongst many other architectural sites based on ancient Greek architecture in Edinburgh has given the Scottish capital the nickname of 'the Athens of the North'.

As the National Monument is unfinished, the project has been banded as the disgrace of Scotland (and Disgrace of Edinburgh)... despite it's abandoned state, I find it beautiful and it merits a wee water colour painting.

It was a particularly wet and rainy Scottish summer day, with some atmospheric skied making for a gorgeous but challenging day to paint.
