There are really two stages two PhD interviews at many universities. They are divided into different screening processes.
The first screen is to see if you are interested in doing a doctoral program. At that stage, you will likely talk to the doctoral program coordinator, or someone like that. This is likely done use Zoom or Skype.
At the second stage, you will likely talk to several of the faculty, where we assess what you think about you as a researcher and your potential.
At the third stage, you will likely be made an offer and you will get a chance to interact with the faculty and come see the university. At this point, the power is your hands, and you get to think about what you want to do.
Ask to meet some of the doctoral students.
See if you can reach out to a former doctoral student and see where they have gone.
Here are some important tips for your doctoral interviews:
Do not just go on reputation alone. This changes very rapidly, depending on who is at the school.
Go on your gut feeling. If you see things that feel uncomfortable, it is likely a signal to you about the culture.
The people that are interviewing you are just as nervous as you are interviewing them. Don’t forget that.

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, starting a business, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.
https://r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform
A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.
The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
