Natyasangeet is a beloved form of music used in Sangeet Nataks (Musicals) widely popular in the state of Maharashtra. It is believed that the concept of Sangeet Natak, inspired by the folk art form Yakshagana, went from Karnataka to Maharashtra. Consequently, the melody of many Marathi Natyageets are very similar to those of Kannada Rangageethes..

In this rendition, two such similar songs have been presented: Shura Mi Vandile and Shyama Nee Premale. Despite the melodic overlap, the vastly different lyrical content in the two pieces demands a completely different style of rendition for each. Further, Rangageethes are especially known for being set in an assortment of ragas and allowing the musician to even change raagas while exploring the composition, one of the hallmarks of this artform.
