At least six people have died in West Bengal's Darjeeling district after the Dudiya iron bridge in Mirik collapsed following heavy rains and landslides. The collapse of the bridge, which connects the tourist hotspot of Mirik to Siliguri and Kurseong, was caught on camera. Incessant rainfall, about which the weather office had issued a prior warning, has led to a grim situation in North Bengal. Several areas are inundated, and multiple roads leading to Darjeeling are cut off due to landslides, leaving tourists stranded. The rivers Teesta and Jaldhaka are flowing above the danger level. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed as the administration monitors the precarious situation. A reporter noted, "situation is only getting precarious as of now." The weather forecast predicts more heavy rainfall, which could worsen conditions.
