A Tactical History of Liverpool, Episode 1: Liverpool - Arsenal 1964, Football League 64/65

In April 1964, Bill Shankly's Liverpool won the league with a 5-0 thrashing of Arsenal. Four months later, they welcomed back the same side to kick off their title defence, shown on television in the very first Match of the Day.

They weren't well-prepared though. Just like the city's bands, Liverpool Football Club toured the US and returned home exhausted, while several players were out injured.

It was a sign of things to come in the 64/65 season.
