Zilog recently announced the discontinuation of the Z80 processor line after almost 48 years on the market. And 44 years ago, Microsoft released an upgrade for the Apple II that would let you have your Apple II and run CP/M, too: The Microsoft Z-80 SoftCard.

Please tell me that the hyphen on the Wikipedia article is a mistake. (Checks the Internet Archive for a manual.) Looks like Microsoft inserted a hyphen where one doesn't belong!

Let's finish this inaugural #AprilApples with one final potential eBay regret, and try to install this Z-80 SoftCard into my Apple //e. Because CP/M supposedly requires 80 column support, and I don't have an 80 column card for any other Apple II or clone...

Will the Z-80 SoftCard work? Will the spicy capacitor throw a temper tantalum? Will CP/M on the Apple //e be a complete letdown? You'll have to watch to find out!
