Activists closed meat department supermarket
August 6, 2009 A group of 40 people closed the meat department in the Delhaize supermarket on the Meir in Antwerpen. The production and selling of meat and dairy contributes world wide more to the emission of the greenhouse gasses than all the traffic and transport together. According to the activists it is about time do do something against this activity that is causing world wide so much misery.

ImageThe action went well. The security of the shopping mall reacted quite aggressive, but the manager of the supermarket prefered a group of concerned citizens informing his costumers about meat production above a big fuss in his shop.
More than 100 people entered and secured a field in the heart of Antwerp's industrial harbour for 1 week of Climate Action Camp in august 2009. They are convinced we need to take urgent action to address Global warming. So, they set up this camp and use it as a base for knowledge transfer and direct action. (www.klimaatactiocamp.org)

One of the actions was an actions focusing on the link between meat consumption and climate change. The life cycle of meat produces much more green house gases than the life cycle of non-meat food. Thats why eating less meat is one of the answers to climate change. The action blocked the meat section in a shopping center. Eat less meat, it wont kill you.
